We Did It! 24 Weeks

We did it! We did it! We did it! *Sings loudly and does a little dance while laying in bed -- then breathes a HUGE sigh of "some" relief*

First milestone down! Now onto the next... 28 weeks and being able to deliver here in town, at the hospital Gabe and I were both born in.

Your baby's growing steadily, having gained about 4 ounces since last week. That puts him at just over a pound. Since he's almost a foot long (picture an ear of corn), he cuts a pretty lean figure at this point, but his body is filling out proportionally and he'll soon start to plump up. His brain is also growing quickly now, and his taste buds are continuing to develop. His lungs are developing "branches" of the respiratory "tree" as well as cells that produce surfactant, a substance that will help his air sacs inflate once he hits the outside world. His skin is still thin and translucent, but that will start to change soon.

I need your thoughts. We really, really, really want to have a 3-d ultrasound done. We want a video to be able to share with family and someday with the boys. So, I am allowed out to appointments right? So... the 3-d place is about 10 minutes from my Peri's office. I will be out for my next check anyways right? So...... maybe a short 3-d ultrasound on the same day as my Peri check? What do you think? I think the Peri will be fine with it, but I will double check. Hey... I will be laying down while they do it. It sure would put a smile on our faces to have one done. We planned on a 45 minute one, but now with the situation we are in... a 15 minute will have to do. What are your thoughts?

Thank you all SO much for the emails, comments, and phone calls. SO glad to hear that my vent from yesterday is normal and that I am NOT alone. I am feeling much better today, doing my best to ignore the little things and the house in general. Gabe should be home most of tonight, which will be nice. Yesterday my BFF, Susie came over and she knew I had been crying... so of course I burst into tears. She said "how about you spend Thursday on my couch?" Then not even 10 seconds later she said "no no wait... how about I come over here and you tell me what you need done around here?" Let me just say, Susie does NOT read my blog and I did not tell her what was bothering me, she JUST KNOWS! I love my Susie! And YES I took her up on her offer. She is going to run some errands and then come over and help out. She told me to make a list, so a list I will make. She might be sorry. Hehehee.

Wouldn't ya know it.. I get a craving last night for Costco muffins (I know, I know real healthy huh?), ya know the variety pack with the chocolate chip, poppy seed, and blueberry? Lucky for me Gabe was at Costco. Turns out they no longer sell them in variety. Booohhhooo... you have to buy a pack of each flavor. Bummer.

We watched this DVD last night about the babies and it seems they have taste buds and can get the flavor of what I am eating through the amniotic fluid and will acquire a liking for those flavors. UH OH... Houston, we have a problem! Since bedrest started I have been mainly eating junk and things I can pop into the microwave so I don't have to stand up to cook. I want the boys to be good eaters, I better start spicing it up a bit and lay off on the junk food and Costco muffins. These boys are going to come out wanting fast food and Ben & Jerry's, which is NOT what we normally eat in this house.

Hip Hip Hooray for 24 Weeks!!!

Congrats!! 24 weeks is such an awesome milestone.
Funny how I'm still excited over milestines, and now I'm close to the "Term" Milestone. HOLY COW it came slow but sooo fast.
And I dont see why not do the 3D, I'd do it.
I can't decide if I want to or not. Mostly because I want seeing him and any glimps of what he looks like to be a surprise, but I want the memories too.

Awesome job making it so far!!! (although I have to ask, why do you widgets say you are at 26 weeks?)

Go for the 3D ultrasound...this is a one in a lifetime opportunity! Do you really need to limit it to 15 minutes? You're just lying on a table...

Jenn,

I emailed you this response, but thought I would write it here in case any one else was curious. With twins full term is 37 weeks and my OB will not allow me to go any further than 38 weeks. So, I set up my tickers to reflect a 38 week gestation since that is the longest I could go. :-)

I'm so happy to read a happier post! I'm also thrilled you guys made it to 24 weeks (I had no doubt)!

Your friend Suzie sounds amazing!

Double boo hoo! I love the asorted box of muffins. I usually eat the tops of them and don't touch the bottoms and then my dad would tell me if I can't eat the entire thing, I shouldn't eat it. I can't have a muffin from costco without thinking about that lecture and now those A-holes robbed me of my precious moment, lol, I'll have to buy 3 boxes now...yikes!

As for the 3d, go for it! Your laying down anyways and it will bring so much joy to you and if it is your one splurge (since you can't do anything else)...do it!

I had one done when I was PG and I am so glad I did. It ended up being my only pregnancy. I haven't watched in awhile. I figure I can sit down with Mackenzie when she gets older and she can see herself.

Your bff sounds great. Don't you just love having friends like that.
As far as the ultrasound, I don't see why you couldn't as long as your doc says its ok.

YAY TIFF!!!!
I think you should get the 3d done, even if it's just the 15 minute one, you'll just adore it and be so glad you did get it done.
I'm glad Susie is there for you.

Congrats on the HUGE milestone. Go get the 3D - you deserve some fun and, as you said, you'll be lying on your back. Plus, it gives you that extra incentive to stay put and let those babies cook, cook, cook. :-) Hugs!

Yeah!!! 24 weeks is so awesome! I just know how much of a relief it is to get to this point!!

I had a 3-D ultrasound done with both pregnancies when I was on bedrest. My OB said as long as I wasn't on my feet for longer than 10 minutes, I was fine. I loved every minute of the 3-D u/s...we got pics and videos!! It's amazing...esp this far along in your pregnancy! We had one when Cole and Bella were only 16 weeks along and OMG they looked like freaky alien babies. Then we had it done again when they were 26 weeks and they actually looked like real babies!

Your BFF sounds amazing! I'm so happy to hear that she sensed you were needing some extra help and that she offered!!!

Hang in there!
