Welcome Home and Our First Night

The boys came home yesterday, and we played it VERY low key with visitors.  The evening went well and the night was NOT what I expected at all.

We got sleep!  The boys were fantastic. Probably just a fluke, but with Gabe helping it was all so do-able, we got 7.5 hours of sleep, and I am already dressed with makeup and blogging.

I have well um... given up on breastfeeding.  Wait, wait.. not on breast milk.  I don't plan to stop that for a VERY long time, but the actual getting them to both latch and feed after have been given a bottle in the hospital was VERY hard for me, so I am pumping and giving them bottles.  It is working well for us so that Gabe and other family members can help with the feeding.  They are eating about 2 oz. each every 3 -4 hours and I am making 5 oz. every 3 hours.  So, so far so good.  I do in fact feel like a bit of a failure, but the most important part is that they are getting the breast milk.

Last night we got them both down at 10:30 with full bellies.  So we hit the hay as well.  At 2 a.m. both were stirring so we changed, swaddled, and feed them again.  I also pumped at this time.  The four of us were back to sleep around 2:30 a.m.  At 4:30 a.m. Noah was awake so we got them both up and again changed, swaddled, and feed.  All four of us were back to sleep around 4:50 and stayed sleeping until 7 a.m.  I am thrilled!  Now lets just hope this happens again tonight and nights forward.  Today we plan to give the babies sponge baths!  Today we will also be getting a dimmer switch for the light in our room, and we plan to try out the swaddling blankets we have.  Did I mention I was in love with two little boys?

Of course I am tearing up right now...and this will probably be on a daily basis until I come to visit in December. Although I may be able to see all of you in November when I have a lay over in San Francisco (something Aunt Susie mentioned about when I fly up to Seattle for Thanksgiving) I am so happy all went well last night. I had a feeling with your experience with all the other family babies that, once you got the boys home you would have all under control. You have always been a natural :) I know today will be busy with all the people who mentioned they are coming by today so I will talk to you tomorrow. It's going to be an open house basically today :) Kiss my little bears for me.

Love you mean it...

Aaden's and Noah's Mima :)

Congratulations on a successful first night. And you are right what is so important nutrition and immune wise is the milk. I commend/encourage you for pumping and hope this works for your little family for many months to come.

Loving the pictures!

I just can't get over how fast this all happened. It seemed like yesterday you were doing your IVF. Now you have your little miracles home with you. What an awesome thing! I am so happy for you and so glad your first night went well.

Sounds like your doing wonderfully. I'm so happy you have help. Allan loved being able to give our boys a bottle of breast milk also. They are just beautiful.

Love,
Theresa

Congrats on being successful with the pumping...I was a complete failure with the entire breastfeeding thing too, but pumped the dickens out of myself with each of my 3 girls.

Don't you dare feel guilty! The fact that you found a compromise that works for you is great proof that you are a great mommy!!!

You go girl!

Awww - your boys are adorable!!Congratulations on being home all together!

And I'm so excited for you that you had such a good night. I'm hoping that schedule keeps up for all of you. Lucky momma!

Good for you for feeding your boys with whatever works for you. So many moms feel guilty about how they choose to feed their kids!! The more hands that can help feed them, the better. Those two will be eating you out of house and home before you know it. ;o)

Hoping you continue to have wonderful nights and days with your little guys.

Aww i just want to cry! I am sooo glad we get to come in two weeks and see you, gabe and them boys!

So excited that you had a GREAT first night and although you are not "breast" feeding, don't worry about it, they are getting what they need SOMEHOW and that is all that matters. Even more awesome that you are TOTALLY pumping enough for both of them! yay tiff!!

Cheers to good nights of sleep from here on out and of course many many years of unbelievable amounts of love for your little men...

we love you all!

What a great first night :D Just FYI, for us we started great and it went down from there :) But you will go on loving it anyway. Btw I had to stop BFing because of very bad milk allergies, so I know how you feel, but sometimes things are just not meant to be. I am sure you tried plenty hard.
